Ubuntu on Genio
===============

By `partnering with Canonical <https://ubuntu.com/blog/tag/mediatek>`__,
`MediaTek Genio platform <https://www.mediatek.com/iot/home>`__ supports the modern Ubuntu operating
system based on open source Linux for server and IoT devices.

Ubuntu is a trademark owned by Canonical. Please visit its `intellectual property rights policy <https://ubuntu.com/legal/intellectual-property-policy>`__
to accept and acknowledge the terms and conditions before using Ubuntu.

This site provides technical information about Ubuntu on the MediaTek Genio platform, including:

* How to :doc:`install proprietary drivers and middlewares </bsp-installation>` for hardware accelerators, such as video codec

  port Ubuntu to your hardware:

You don't need to sign up or login to https://launchpad.net/ to download the Ubuntu on Genio images
or :doc:`install Genio hardware support packages </bsp-installation>` on your Genio EVK.

If you plan to design and develop hardware based on MediaTek Genio SoC, a MediaTek Online account and license agreements with MediaTek allow you to:

    * Access hardware development resources
    * :doc:`Build and develop </customization>` bootloader and board firmware for your board or System-on-Module(SoM) using MediaTek Genio platform
    * :doc:`Report </report-bugs>` Genio SoC bootloader, firmware, or Genio package issues to MediaTek

If you plan to use Ubuntu commercially, please contact Canonical:

    * Access development kernels or development images built by the Canonical team, such as:

        * Access test images hosted in https://oem-share.canonical.com/
        * Access development kernel packages in the `baoshan-ppa <https://launchpad.net/~baoshan-ppa/+archive/ubuntu/baoshan-proposed>`__ archive.

    * Report issues of Ubuntu on Genio to Canonical via https://launchpad.net
